Read 2 Lead
MABL’s Read 2 Lead is more than a Book Discussion Club. It is an ideological perspective forum that affords its participants the opportunity to develop a common understanding of the conceptual underpinnings of why we exist as an Alliance.
The purpose of Read 2 Lead is not to indoctrinate our members into a group think mentality or discourage independent thinking. Each ideological perspective of our required book title will be accompanied by at least 2 additional recommended titles to
provide a little more depth of understanding on the topic. The overall discussion of the primary book will include some references to the recommended books, Insha’Allah. It’s never too late or harmful to grow your library.
The following three books will be discussed first and in the sequential order as they appear below:
- Beyond Bilal, Mustafa Briggs (Recommended Titles) – 1. The Call of Bilal: Islam in the African Diaspora, Edward E. Curtis IV 2. Bilal al-Habashi: An Exemplar
of Patience and Devotion, Hilal Kara and Abdullah Kara - Sacred Activism, Imam Dawud Walid (Recommended Titles) – 1. 40 Hadith on Community Service & Activism, Dr. Mohannad Hakeem, 2. 40 Hadith on Justice: The Prophetic Voice on Social Reform, Omar Suleiman
- Halfway Home: Race, Punishment, and the Afterlife of Mass Incarceration, Miller Rueban Jonathan (Recommended Titles) – 1. Prison By Any Other Name, Maya Schenwar and Victoria Law 2.
All titles are available at Amazon. If there is an African American- owned bookstore
in the area that has any of these titles, please make your purchases from these
stores and support Black Businesses.
